Are they going to take advantage of the latest technologies? Are they going to realise the promised benefits? Will they become easier to implement? Or are they just destined to become low value, non-differentiating commodity IT? We’ll take a look at some potential future scenarios as to how the market might evolve.

1.30pm – 2.15pm Mr. John Herd – divisional CIO – Glencore“CTRM – Dead or Alive?”
How does the CTRM concept stack up in today’s business and IT environment?   Do companies really want (or need) a one-stop shop for Commodity Trading and Risk Management or would they prefer something more lightweight and adaptable?   How do the offerings of the CTRM vendors match the differing requirements of the teams involved in commodity trading and what does this mean for the vendors themselves?  These and other related questions will be addressed in a presentation that seeks to answer whether the CTRM application concept is the way forward or heading for the history books.
2.20pm – 3.00pm Mr. Vis Prabhakaran – Global Head of Risk – Armajaro Trading Limited“Risk Management in the Agricultural commodity supply chain: A CTRM Perspective”
Risk management in the agricultural commodity supply chain involve managing and controlling varied categories of risks like operational, logistics, freight, market, credit, performance, regulatory, sovereign, insurance, weather, and reputation. The risk management challenges in this sector have increased in the last few years with changing consumption patterns and weather conditions, and market volatility. CTRM systems will need to be scalable and provide high quality risk information at various granularities in order to manage the risks efficiently. The presentation looks at how CTRM systems can help address the risk management needs in the agricultural commodity sector.

The future of CTRM must be to deliver the basic functionality with the potential to handle exceptions at a reasonable cost and on a flexible platform. The history of the evolution of CTRM software has bred a needlessly complex array of potential solutions that often miss the point. While the future provides the possibility of more standard approaches, the industry changes at a faster pace than ever presenting challenges for vendors and users alike. I won’t provide the answer but possibly some guidance on what will be required.
